MONTRÉAL, QC - The Canadian Federation of Taxpayers (CTF) is asking the governments of Canada, Quebec and the City of Montreal to account for the costs of the massive influx of illegal migrants crossing the border. According to the President of the Customs and Immigration Union, the Olympic stadium is likely to be filled very soon and the border agency does not have the resources to cope with this influx.

"Canadians are known for their openness and generosity to people fleeing dangerous political regimes.” In this case, migrants are fleeing the United States, a rich, peaceful and democratic country," said Carl Vallée, CTF's Quebec Director.

"What is more, we know that the federal government has been caught off guard and our resources are over-spent. How much will it cost taxpayers to lodge and feed all these people? How is it that our political leaders allow our laws to be violated on the taxpayers' wallet?"

The city of Montreal announced it is opening a new place that can accommodate up to 300 additional migrants. Every day, a few hundred migrants arrive at the border and there is no indication that this will stop soon.

“Our political leaders want to give themselves a good conscience and be generous with the money of others," Carl Vallée said. "Yes, Canada is a generous and welcoming country, but Canada is also a state of law. Hundreds of thousands of immigrants respect our laws by applying in a proper way to settle in Canada. To let all these illegal migrants cut in ahead of those applying legally is not only unfair to those immigrants who abide by the rules, but also a lack of respect for taxpayers' ability to pay. "
